Mission Statement
The mission of the Arizona Law Enforcement Torch Run is to raise funds for, and awareness of Special Olympics statewide. To further the Special Olympics philosophy, we will carry the Torch representing the Flame of Hope and dedicate ourselves to helping Special Olympics throughout Arizona.

History
The LETR is a series of intra-state/intra-nation runs that take place in the spring and summer in the United States and around the world. Law enforcement personnel carry the Special Olympics Torch for a common cause which takes us through blizzards in Alaska, the mists of England, the islands of the Caribbean, the endless farmland of Illinois, and the deserts of Arizona, to bring the Torch to the Opening Ceremonies of our state or nation’s Special Olympics Summer Games. The common goal is to raise money to support Special Olympics athletes, as well as help dispel the myths surrounding the capabilities of people with intellectual disabilities.

To symbolize our support and the independence of Special Olympics athletes, at each Opening Ceremonies we pass the Torch to an athlete, who uses it to light the “Flame of Hope” which burns throughout the Special Olympics Games.

Goals
Throughout the course of the Torch Run, participants collect contributions from individuals and businesses, ask service groups and schools to raise funds on our behalf and raise money through special events such as "Tip a Cop", golf tournaments, polor plunges, and plane pulls—just to name a few!

Special Olympics Arizona (SOA) serves over 9,100 athletes through a network of volunteers. Thanks to the great support of Arizona law enforcement, our athletes can compete state wide and nationally in World Summer and Winter games.
